I have heard of people getting locked inside lockers, some times for long periods of time. But has anyone ever died while locked inside one? Are there news articles about it online? That would be such a horrible way to go.

probably not, the slats in the door would prevent suffocation and even if they are put in on the last day of school teachers still stay for a week or so and would hear them. It is possible however that a person in a locker might have died due to a medical condition or preexisting injury while inside the locker.

also after you mentioned lockers without slats even without them lockers don't need to be airtight it serves no academic purpose and would only cost money so i doubt there are any like that

Today, one of our school's grade 7 students was locked in a locker for almost 2 hours. The locker wasn't large. Other students (who were involved) were trying to get her out. Finally, they got her out. She was sleeping! When she woke up, she started crying right away.

The staff thought that it was strange that she was sleeping. But, later on, I realized that she was sleeping due to carbon monoxide poisoning. If she was not taken out of the locker, she would have breathed in more carbon monoxide than oxygen.

If the girl was breathing in a panic, then her consumption of oxygen would be great and the allowance of oxygen in through the locker slats would not be enough to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Victims of carbon monoxide poisoning fall asleep before dying.

I know movies and cartoons make a big deal about nerds getting shoved into lockers, but have you actually looked at a school locker?

The largest locker I ever had was in high school and you had to share with someone. The lockers were maybe 12" wide, 12" deep, and only about 5' tall. There were two horizontal shelves on top and vertical divider on the bottom where you and your partner were supposed to hang your coats. No one's winter coat fit in there, so you have to shove it in and then slam the locker shut.

Even without the shelves and divider, there's no way you could have shoved even the smallest high school student inside that locker.
