I think it factors in with all the other budget cuts. Like some schools are having to do a four-day school week, cancelling field trips, after school programs and charging students to play sports. Some places have cut out buses even. I don't think they have ruled out music in the entirety. It's all combined.

It's pretty sad that we have been torturing students by not giving them the opportunity to stay off the streets. When I was in school in the 90's and high school in 2000- I didn't have any money to pay for the after school recreation stuff. We had one music semester in middle school which was free and in high school you had to buy the musical instruments then join the classes. I wasn't into anything after school cause we couldn't afford it. You know that little pamphlet you use to get that had a ton of things to do in it, well, I asked my single mother working 2 jobs if I could join some classes but she said no it was too expensive. There was like 2 or 3 things that was free in the book- which I did do one, it was acting. But after that there wasn't much to do. I remember having parents drive the students to field trips and if we couldn't get enough parents to drive we couldn't go. In high school, in maui, we didn't have a single field trip.

I think all the public schools have had some musical cuts. Private schools I think have more music classes in them because well, you pay to get in, they have more money. But then there are even some schools that specialize in music and arts.
